A spare title, almost didactic – and then the images undo it. Of the body, staged as something caught between sculpture and apparition. Not quite flesh, not quite object. The black-and-white plates carry a deliberate harshness: high contrast, staged lighting, a sense that the figure has been placed, before it was found.

This publication accompanies Lethbridge’s presentation at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in 1986 – a moment when Berlin still held that charged, divided atmosphere. A horse enters. A patterned cloth breaks continuity. 

“Perfectability” suggests a trajectory – an improvement, a refinement. Error is where a deviation becomes visible.
