Romane Holderried Kaesdorf (1922–2007) was a German draughtswoman, painter, and illustrator who lived and worked in Biberach an der Riß. Over five decades she developed a singular figurative practice centred on drawing, creating enigmatic scenes in which ordinary people engage in quietly absurd encounters with everyday objects. Her work combines precise observation, subtle humour, and psychological acuity, and has often been associated with George Grosz, James Ensor, and elements of Art Brut, while remaining unmistakably her own. Today she is recognised as one of the most distinctive voices in post-war German drawing.
