A figure that knows it is being seen.

The cat arrives as sign – immediate, repeatable, distorted. The yellow is brushed through, streaked, as if the image were still forming (and perhaps it is). Black holds it in place, but only just. The outline flickers between control and drift.

The background opens. Into a kind of night, dotted, indefinite. Almost airborne, the cat. The white contour acts as a delay – a buffer between figure and field.

Gaze has learned how to appear.
