Published by Galerie Buchholz on the occasion of two exhibitions by Lucy McKenzie – one at the gallery’s Berlin space and the other in New York. 

The book takes the form of an inventory from an imagined estate sale. Objects appear one by one, each accompanied by invented provenances and sources, producing a narrative that moves between documentation, fiction and catalogue.

The project relates to McKenzie’s exhibition “Inspired by an Atlas of Leprosy”, where the artist transformed the gallery interior into a simulated apartment-office environment populated by trompe-l’œil surfaces, faux marble, painted furniture and illusionistic décor.

Through these devices McKenzie explores questions of appropriation, colonisation and authorship – themes that recur throughout her work and that here unfold through the language of interiors, display and archival reconstruction.
