UNTITLED-NUDO
UNTITLED-NUDO
(2018) Acrylic on paper 29,7x21cm
The immediacy of laCulm’s work. It begins with the moka pot and the shoulder touched onto a white page. An arm raised – probably a fragrant image. Sun. Something opens the space of the drawing and pulls the whole oeuvre behind it.
One can trace a whole series of attempts at such an opening: the figure with the round nothing in its belly; the circle of figures locked by their arms; another circle formed, opened and closed at once, by the knife gatherers.
The blade itself is an opening escaping circularity – closer to faithful desire than to promiscuous drive.
The preparatory gestures are kenotic. They empty themselves, preparing for a state of grace. For that, they exercise the line.
But it’s the moka-pot morning that cashes it in. It is the sovereign nudity of the boxer shorts that lays out a new poetics.
The way is wide open.
